A LIFETIME OF RARE PLANTS

Florahound is built around the life’s work of Leon Massoth, a master horticulturist who has spent decades exploring, cultivating, and studying rare tropical plants. Long before Florahound, Leon was growing plants rarely seen in cultivation - species collected as seed, grown slowly, and selected for resilience as much as beauty.

The plants found here are not produced by large scale commercial growers and are unavailable at your local nursery. Florahound exists to make that depth of cultivation, knowledge, and access available to the public - one plant at a time.

QUESTIONS

What does it mean for a plant to be “rare”?

At Florahound, “rare” means plants that are not mass-produced or commonly available at standard nurseries. Many of our plants are grown in small quantities, propagated slowly, or come from lineages that are difficult to source. Some may only appear once.

Where do your plants come from?

Our plants come from a mix of in-house cultivation, long-standing grower relationships, and careful seed-grown or propagated material. Many originate from wild-collected genetics that are grown responsibly and ethically over time - not rushed for market.

Are these plants hard to take care of?

Not necessarily. While some plants require experience, many are surprisingly forgiving. We focus on matching plants to your space and skill level and are always happy to walk you through care before you take anything home.

Are they safe for pets or children?

Some plants can be toxic if ingested, which is common across many houseplants. We clearly label known risks and are happy to help you choose pet-safe or child-safe options if that’s a concern.

How often do new plants arrive?

The inventory is always changing. New plants hit the shelves weekly, and many are one-offs or limited runs. If you see something special, it’s best not to wait - it may not be available again.

Do you ship or sell online?

At the moment, Florahound is an in-store experience. We believe rare plants are best chosen in person, with the opportunity to see, learn, and ask questions. Online offerings may come later.
